BEST IN SHOW NIMLOTH BILBO TO KILBOURNE - RESERVE BIS GREYFLAX JUST PEACHY

BEST VETERAN HYDFRON ULA BEST PUPPY KILBOURNE LIBERTY

It was an honour to judge the Limited Show and my thanks to all exhibitors who entered under me. Thanks also to my stewards, the catalogue markers and all those who helped behind the scenes. The sun shone and there was a lovely atmosphere around the ring. I hope you enjoyed the day as much as I did.
Since I last judged, I felt that fore-chests are disappearing, and many hounds did not have sufficient depth of chest or spring and length of rib for a sight hound. Upright pasterns and flat feet are also appearing, again not desirable in a working hound. Having said that, ears and tail carriage were generally good and overall muscle tone excellent.

PUPPY DOG 6 ENTRIES 1 AB SENT

1st Taylor’s - KILBOURNE BOOGALOO AT ORMANSTAR. Just 6 months, a lovely baby! Nice dark eye and soft expression although ears set a little low. Very good lay of shoulder with good fore- chest. Well ribbed back with good spring of rib. Feet need to tighten up, but moved soundly with balanced rear angulation.

2ND TEVIOTDALE BANNER BLUE - 3RD CUSIDH DRAWING DOWN THE SUN

2nd Cunningham’s - Teviotdale Banner Blue. 10 months old with masculine head, I would have liked a slightly darker eye. Lacking in fore-chest at the moment while still growing, but lovely rear end construction and moved with drive. Lots to like about this young dog which pushed hard for first place.

3rd Cartmell’s Cusidh Drawing Down the Sun.

BEST BITCH KILBOURNE LIBERTY - BEST PUPPY

Bitches

Firstly thank you to the exhibitors for their entries & to the club for my judging appointment. I would also like to thank my stewards & show manager for running such a successful show, with a friendly jovial atmosphere. I thoroughly enjoyed the day.
My only two concerns were  some very poor feet & some hounds lacking spring rib & depth of brisket. We have to remember that our breed is an endurance hunter over rough terrain. They would not be able to do their job efficiently.
On the whole there were many good examples of the breed. Some looked the part but lost out on the movement I was looking for; easy, active & true with good reach in front & driving from behind.

The two judges could not agree for the BEST IN SHOW slot so Colin Ashmore was called in to judge them, this made it very exciting for both ehibitors and spectators

SPECIAL CLASSES - MR COLIN ASHMORE

I had the pleasure of being invited to be the referee for the Deerhound Club Limited show & judging three Stakes classes. I had been very much looking forward to this appointment & was not disappointed by the very good entries given to me by the exhibitors in the three Stakes classes. The show itself was very well organised & the weather was good allowing judging to take place outside, I must complement the organisers on picking a good venue & delivering a party atmosphere with good food, friendly people, good facilities & plenty of goodies to be won. The exhibitors must be complemented on the very sporting way in which they supported the decisions on the day. I really enjoyed my day with the Club, the exhibitors & their dogs.

I was called upon as referee to decide between the best dog & bitch, complements must go to the two breed judges in putting up two quality dogs of good breed type & soundness.
The bitch Greyflax Just Peachy has a lovely feminine head & expression, strong neck good straight front, well laid shoulders, well off for bone, well arched loin & fall away, well bent stifles, good length from hip to hock, long tail, would have preferred tighter feet & she was moving a bit close behind but covered the ground well
The dog Nimloth Bilbo At Kilbourne really caught my eye, at 13 mths loved his shape & outline, looked so graceful both standing & moving, of good size & bone, head is long well balanced & carried high, well ribbed, good breadth across hips, good front & rear construction, loved his true & active free flowing movement, Well deserved BIS & was pleased to see the two breed judges choice for RBIS
